Favorite Destination

No question, Florence, Italy. The history, culture, and culinary scene are extraordinary, but what makes Florence so memorable is the way it exudes sprezzatura—an effortless sense of style, beauty, and ease. It is a city where art, architecture, and everyday life feel seamlessly and beautifully intertwined.

Always in my carry-on luggage:

My carry-on essentials are simple but specific: a Rimowa travel case for charger cables, my Prada Re-Nylon crossbody messenger bag, AirPods, passport, throat lozenges from Japan, Erewhon hand sanitizer, a Sharpie, hand lotion, lip balm, and a small travel notebook. Each has its place and purpose—keeping travel organized, comfortable, and easy from departure to arrival.

Most underrated destinations:

Siena is one of Italy's most underrated destinations—an easy train ride from Florence, yet it feels deeply distinct, with an extraordinary medieval history and a beautifully preserved historic center recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its 13th- and 14th-century architecture, rich cultural character, and wonderful restaurants make it a quietly exceptional place to experience Tuscany.

On my bucket list:

Paris for its museums and exhibitions; Scotland for its castles and history; Portugal for its cuisine and culture; Hokkaido for the Snow Festival and exceptional seafood; and Jeju Island for its natural beauty, island lifestyle, and distinct sense of place. Each offers a different kind of discovery, shaped by culture, cuisine, history, and a strong connection to place.

my most memorable travel experience:

I have many memorable travel experiences, but the most meaningful are often the unplanned moments that reveal the soul of a place. In Ephesus, I remember noticing the grooves in the ancient marble road and asking our guide about them, only to learn they had been worn down by chariots centuries before. It was such a simple detail, yet incredibly moving.

I have also experienced Mass at the Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula in Brussels, where an opera singer performed the hymns, and an impromptu performance of Madame Butterfly inside the historic Pharmacia Santa Maria Novella in Florence. These moments were unexpected, beautiful, and deeply tied to their surroundings—the kind of experiences that make travel feel truly unforgettable.
