Barbados

Barbados: I always consider Barbados as one of the larger islands in the Caribbean. Although only 21 miles long, nevertheless compared to some of its neighboring islands, it is double or even trip in size. Since Barbados is located way south in the Caribbean, it is the perfect destination any time of the year and out of harm's way of hurricanes. When I think of Barbados, it makes me think of an island that has great infrastructure, beautiful beaches, fantastic restaurants in abundance and an English flare with a laid back island feeling. And then - there is the Sandy Lane Hotel - the iconic grand dame of the Caribbean.

Arriving at this beautiful property is magical. With its imposing white gates you feel like you are being whisked away to some place very special. From that very moment, the Sandy Lane treatment beings. The staff makes you feel like you are the most important guest - no matter who you are, the service is proper but not cold and always with a smile. When you walk through the lobby you are actually standing on the balcony, and now you know you have arrived, overlooking the beautiful Caribbean Sea with a spectacular view.

I could not believe how spacious the rooms were - perfectly complimented with an enormous marble bathroom, "his" and "hers" wardrobes and a huge terrace with vistas spanning the sea and pristine shores. The beach service is impeccable - you are assigned lounge chairs that are yours for the duration of your stay unless you change your mind and would like to relocate to a different part of the beach, which would be accommodated swiftly. After choosing your perfect spot, you are handed a little electronic gadget and told, "If there is anything you need, please press the button." Amazing! Why have I not seen this anywhere else? Geniuses.

Aside from the immaculate coastline there are also two restaurants, of which my favorite was L'Acajou's find dining with a Caribbean twist and impeccable service. The spa at Sandy Lane is one of the most coveted attributes of the property. The stunning spa is almost 50,000 square feet, has its own pool, steam rooms, saunas, outdoor jacuzzi and any treatment you can possibly think of. In fact, you can spend an entire day there since there is also a wonderful restaurant inside. You will never miss your workout since the fitness center has every machine you can imagine and then some; classes and personal trainers are availble on hand so you can stay in shape, even in paradise. Of course there is tennis, golf, water sports and the rest of the island to explore. The Treehouse Club for children, located on several floors of a private building with games and entertainmnet for many ages. Your children will never want to leave this playhouse.

One thing is for sure, it's very difficult to leave this paradise and pampering of the Sandy Lane staff. I definitely recommend this property for couples, families, weddings, family reunions, spa getaways, golf tournaments or any other reason to visit this fantastic property.
